Am happy to say that I have been VERY BUSY in the commercial side of my business...and that has equated to a long absence away from this blog.  Forgive me for that. Am excited to get back to it however, so here it goes.

Yes, I have been "working"...but I have also found time to "play", and for me that equates to photographing new subjects for 'The Creatives' series.

Brad Ford Smith is an artist and sculptor that has created a complete world within the fictitious Nomadic Fungi Institute.  As the website states..."Nomadic Fungi are a mutation that feed upon automobiles.  With their ability to rapidly biodegrade products such as petroleum, rubber and plastic, they pose a serious threat to the world's transportation system".  In the photo above, Brad has assumed the role of Dr. B.F. Smith Phd., the leading authority on this grave subject.  Learn more about about his wacky world and the art that surrounds it by clicking here www.worldofnomadicfungi.com

If you've looked at my initial post for 'The Creatives', you will have seen an image of designer and 'We Are All Homeless' creator Willie Baronet. Willie was one of my first subjects and as I got deeper into the series I came to feel that I had not done him justice. I knew in fact that I could do a better job, so I emailed and asked for a rematch.  He graciously agreed and we absolutely did 'up the game'.  I had a strong idea of where I was headed this time around and that "vision" came to fruition. Love this new photo! Learn more about the We Are All Homeless project here http://weareallhomeless.blogspot.com

In the now defunct FD Magazine, Chris Vognar said this about about filmmaker Ya'Ke Smith.  "Dwain Ya'Ke Smith is a grinder. He's a popular film professor at UTA, where he teaches students the rigors of production-but that's just the day job. He's also a filmmaker whose films tackle taboo subjects of modern African-American life, from his killer feature 'Wolf', about a predatory preacher, to his recent short 'One Hitta Quitta', about the vicious cycle of addictive internet violence. His movies make people angry. They also make people think about things they'd rather ignore.  Like other true artists, he holds a mirror up to the world at an angle that isn't always flattering. But his images are always worth the effort."

Recently, the Video Association of Dallas presented their Ernie Kovacs award to video pioneer (and former member of the Monkees) Michael Nesmith.  The plaque that he received was as wonderful as the award itself, because it was created by long time Dallas artist Greg Metz. By day, Greg is an art professor at the University of Texas at Dallas (and the list of his students that have gone on to successful careers is a long one).  He is pictured here with a sculptural piece from one of his politically themed installations.  Learn more about his work here http://www.gregmetzstudioart.com/work.html. Be sure to check out the link to the "Art Cars"...they're awesome!

Jimmy Baldwin is a long time creative director at the prestigious Richards Group ad agency and I have known he and his wife Jane for years.  Jimmy's other great passion is music.  He writes songs, produces CD's and plays all over Texas with his band.  His most recent CD is titled 'Leviathan of Love' and in the soon to be released video that accompanies it, he and Jane appear as you see them above.  What does it all mean?  You will have to listen to the song and watch the video to find out.  Keep up with the 'Viador' by following his Facebook page...https://www.facebook.com/jimmybaldwinmusic/
