Great Wardrobe Ideas for Branding & Head Shot Photography

What makes for great wardrobe?  It's a question I am often asked and there really is no standard answer because successful wardrobe depends on so many factors...i.e; the individual wearing it, the brand that they are projecting, the location of the photo shoot, etc.  It occurred to me however that one thing I can do is show examples from my archive.  Seeing how wardrobe choices have really helped make successful photographs is a great way to learn to visualize!

So here we go!

Deborah Gunter and Martha Pease are both professional women that came to me for branding updates. Deborah is very involved in the arts and wanted that to be a part of what her imagery evoked.  The full length photograph of her that you see here was shot at the Christopher Martin Gallery. Her wardrobe choice was perfect because it's so artful. The fabric, shape and texture are abstract & sophisticated and the grey color and design does not clash with the energetic colors of the painting in the background.

Martha wanted to project sophistication...but in a relaxed and relatable package.   Her wardrobe choice was right on the money! The leather pants and slightly sheer top are elegant in just the right way and the gold dots on the blouse blend seamlessly with the color of her hair.

How to dress for a group photo is something that many businesses wrangle with and this photograph of the law firm Duffee + Eitzen is a great example of how to do it well.  Dark blue is the base color in this image and that is accented by shades of grey and strategic pops of white.  Another interesting aspect of this photo is that I shot everyone in it individually and then combined them into the group presented above. The background is a soft focus shot of the natural light studio I was working out of at the time.

Gillean Clifford and Stephanie Godsave are both professional dancers (Dallas Black Dance Theater & Bruce Wood Dance) that I have photographed many times.  For these photos however, I asked them to pose for portraits and to bring something 'elegant'. In both cases, the colors are wonderful, the fit is perfect and the style is a little bit eclectic and abstract.

Thinking about how to dress a family?  This image from my archives is a great go-by.  White, brown and cream is the color palatte.  The guys are dressed classically in brown pants and white shirts and the women mix it up, with the matriarch rocking it in the knit top.

I hope this has helped give you some wardrobe ideas.

Let's talk about some wardrobe ideas for you.
